Itinerary

Day One – Welcome to Istria and your Villa

Unpack your luggage and make yourself at home in an en-suite room in a villa that will be yours for a week. Located in a village of Rojnići, Barban county, the heart of Istria, we are at the right spot to start exploring. But first, meet your guides who will help you fit your bike and, over a welcome drink, explain what to expect during the following week. We will take a short ride to get familiar with the roads and surroundings. After a ride we are having a dinner at Konoba (tavern) Batelina – family owned and, claimed by many, the finest seafood restaurant in Croatia. No fancy dress, just exceptional food, olive oil and Istrian wine.

Destination: Villas Adagio, Rojnići
Meals: Dinner

Day Two – Rovinj – The Pearl of Istria

We are heading towards a beautiful town (and once an island) of Rovinj, regarded as one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic coast. On our way we will be passing by small villages in central Istria, glimpsing authentic Istrian architecture and Mediterranean way of life. We will pass a village of Svetvinčenat (or Sanvicenti in Italian), admiring Benedictine abbey and Grimani Caste among a number of churches and medieval buildings. On our way, close to famous Lim bay, once a natural border between Roman provinces – Italia and Dalmatia, we will make a stop in winery Matošević, one of the finest winemakers in Istria. Mr. Matošević will guide us through his wine cellar offering wine tasting and a light lunch. In Rovinj we will have a chance to explore the city and its narrow streets over some food and wine, before heading back by van. A buffet style dinner is served in a tavern (konoba) nearby our villas.

Destination: Svetvinčenat, Lim Bay and Rovinj
Meals: Breakfast / Light Lunch / Dinner
Completed: 42 km (26mi)
Ascent: 285 meters

Day Three – Vineyards and olive trees fields

With our legs warmed up, our destination for the day is a town of Motovun, laying above and overlooking central Istria. Famous for its position (300 meters above the sea level), it hosts one of the most famous film festivals in Croatia. On our way to Motovun, we will be stopping in a village Beram for light lunch in a family owned konoba. Motovun is home of Benvenuti family winery, another one of top Istrian winemakers, where we will be tasting some of fine Istrian wines. From Motovun, a transfer will take us and bikes back to our villas for a swim or just relax before the dinner. After reaching villas and having some rest, we are taking your to a dinner in Kantinon in the centre of buzzling night-time Rovinj.

Meals: Breakfast / Light Lunch / Dinner
Completed: 38 km (24mi)
Ascent: 640 meters

Day Four – Winding roads to Labin

Heading east today’s ride will take us inland through beautiful, quiet and winding roads Istria is famous for. En route towards Labin, we are stopping for a light lunch. Our destination town is a mixture of colourful architecture, narrow cobblestoned medieval streets and a turbulent history. To make sure no one is missing their dose of Mediterranean olive oil and wine, we are having wine tasting with family Negri, William and Anessa, well known for their extra virgin olive oil and award winning white wine Malvazia. A stroll through the narrow streets is recommended before getting in a van heading towards our villas. A buffet style dinner is served in a tavern (konoba) nearby.

Destination: Labin
Meals: Breakfast / Light Lunch / Dinner
Completed: 36 km (22mi)
Ascent: 703 meters

Day Five – Relax Day

Even an active holiday should have a break to relax. It’s up to you whether you will spend it in a villa relaxing by the pool or taking our offer to transfer you to a wellness/spa in a five star design hotel Lone for some true relaxing. For those who don’t feel like spending a day off the saddle, we are happy to take you to another destination in Istria by bike. For the dinner we are going back to Žminj for an authentic Istrian cuisine in a family tavern Puli Pineta. Quality Istrian wines and traditional spirits will be a fine complement for a day of full relaxation.

Destination: Vodnjan and Rovinj
Meals: Breakfast / Light Lunch / Dinner

Day Six – Bongiorno Grožnjan – The town of artists

After we have relaxed our muscles, we are going for our longest ride – 55 km (34mi) towards the magnificent town of Grožnjan. On our way to Grožnjan we are stopping in Tinjan, Croatia’s prosciutto capital. There Mr. Milohanić, arguably the best prosciutto maker in Croatia will take us for a tour of his prosciutto cellar and offer some prosciutto tasting. Grožnjan, the only town in Croatia with Italian majority, is home of numerous artists, famous for festivals (the biggest one held in early September) and medieval architecture of uneven cobblestoned streets and narrow houses. An inspirational place to explore and have an espresso and some food. From Grožnjan, a van is taking us back to our villas where a delicious, traditional buffet style dinner is served in a tavern (konoba) nearby.

Destination: Grožnjan
Meals: Breakfast / Light Lunch / Dinner
Completed: 55 km (34mi)

Day Seven – Through olive tree fields to a Roman amphitheatre

Our last day on a bike on this tour will take us to a Roman amphitheatre (Arena) in Pula, one of the six largest Roman amphitheatres in the World. Before reaching Pula, we will be passing through the village of Vodnjan – the olive oil capital of Istria. There, over some food, we will have olive oil tasting and be thought a thing or two about how to make the (officially) world’s best olive oil from the maker himself, Mr. Chiavalon. When we reach Pula, we will have a chance to explore this city with great and well preserved Roman history and have a coffee and cake at Forum (main Roman square). For our dinner we are going for an authentic Istrian food – Trattoria Vodnjanka in Vodnjan.
